I feel blessed knowing that the Philippines is not included on this list.
Despite what happened a few days back when Typhoon Sendong hit the southern Philippines and left more than a thousand people dead (latest news from NDRRMC is 1,080), we should still see hope as we can still recover from the calamity that brought us down. The countries according to the article are top 10 poorest countries in the world but we are still very fortunate that we are not listed there. Although we faced challenges like what happened last week, our country is still a blessed country.
Juan de la Cruz is not alone
As regards to Filipino values, I can say Filipinos really have that compassion and sympathy whenever the situation calls for it. I feel happy knowing that even the private sector are not willing to forsake the fact that the victims of the storm have no bright Christmas awaiting them and no Noche Buena. Darkness creeps not only on their devastated place but also on their hearts as their dearly loved ones left them in the coldness of the night.
"There's a rainbow always after the rain", a famous line that should be sung by the victims but as one could say perhaps not easy to utter or even sing. Having all your things taken by the mammoth floods are not an easy fact to accept more so when your loved ones disappeared from your eyes.
Can there still be a hope waiting for them? Yes, I believe God will not give us a trial which we cannot bear. He cares for all of us. We just have faith. God maybe teaching us some lessons from what had happened in the devastated cities. To every Filipinos, let us join our hands and pray to God that we will still have a blessed Christmas and bright new year to come.
