Northeast Monsoon lashes lives in Luzon

Three dead: six missing as continuous rain flooded towns in Aurora, Isabela, and Cagayan, Philippines, December 21. 

There were 19, 188 persons in 16 barangays in Region III were submerged in flood due to the cascading rainwater from Mt. Caraballo and overflowing Dimasingal and Casalucan River brought about by northeast monsoon. Two were dead from Region II namely Edgar Montemayor Y Canonizado and Joey B. Quirabu while 6 are still missing. There were also casualties from Baguio City, Job Cablo was declared dead and Eugenio Valdez Padilla of San Fernando City is still missing.

According to National Disaster Risk Reduction Council (NDRRMC), on or about 4:00 am of Dec. 18, 2011 along the shoreline of Brgy. Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union, a group of persons went swimming and were engulfed by a big wave and carried by a strong current of water. At around 8:00 am of 19 Dec. 2011, PCG SAR Team onboard rubber boat proceeded to the area and a dead body was sighted floating approximately 500 yards away from the PPIC Pier 2 and was retrieved at around 9:30 am.


NDRRMC and Coast Guard are still on the conduct of search and rescue operations at the moment. They are validating the total number of casualties. Further actions are taken care of.
