For one to be a passer in the CPA board exam, he/she has to know first what it takes to be a CPA. It is not about luck as some of the passers will say. Those CPA Board passers have exerted their effort and perhaps have applied the following techniques and tips for passing the CPA Board Exam:
1. Prepare early – Some students on their first year often mention that they have still a lot of time to study, that they do not need to get serious about accounting and preparing for the board exam. I once interviewed a CPA Board topnotcher and he said he started reading the financial accounting books when he was first year college and on the succeeding years he was already answering review materials. If you are already on your later years in college, it is not too late, start now and open your notes, focus on those topics which you are not familiar with. If you have no materials, borrow from your friends or search on the internet.
2. Think that you are a CPA already – Before I took the board exam, I already put the acronym “CPA” after my name and wrote it on the first page of my reviewers and books. It reminded me of my goal of becoming a CPA. During my review I was not thinking of negative thoughts like, “what if I fail?”. You should always think that you will pass the board exams. If others can pass, you can also pass.
3. Enrol on any of CPA Review Schools of your choice – To have more chances of passing the board exam, you should enrol in CPA Review Schools. They give handouts which are updated and they also give tips in order to develop you and rev you up for the upcoming CPA Board Examination.
4. Always have “to-do’s” at the beginning of the day – This will help you minimize wasted time and will help you focus on your review. You may also have to set your mood before you study a particular topic. If you think you are not learning anything on what you are studying, you may try to schedule it on some other time.
5. Practice, practice and practice – As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”. “What you learn to do, you learn by doing.” This will help you to become more at ease on answering CPA board questions.
6. Pray and pray until you succeed – The more prayers you utter, the more that God will here you and He will help you to pass the CPA Board exam. God will help you, but remember you must help yourself first, and that is by studying seriously and wholeheartedly.
I use these six techniques in order to pass the board exam. I hope that these will work also with you. God bless.
